Market Place Commodities Ltd is an independently owned and operated merchandising company located in Lethbridge that is committed to serving Western Canadian farmers and livestock producers.
MPC is actively trading commodities grown and produced by farmers across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba to co-products produced by ethanol and bio fuel plants in the heart of the US Corn Belt.
Our goal is to be the MARKET PLACE and provide marketing services to the agriculture and processing industries, starting from those who produce the commodities to those who process the commodities. The need for both vendors and customers is marketing - access to true price discovery, solid pricing options, ability to either mitigate risk or take on risk, ability to lock in profits, ensure timely movement of commodities, arbitrage, etc.
We believe that our combined experience and knowledge of the industry and this business is unique. We are a unique company and we strive not only to be good, but to be great!
Western Canadian Prairie farmers produce some of the highest quality grains and oilseeds in the world. We are currently trading many non-board commodities. Feed barley and wheat are mostly grown and sold to local livestock feeders but also to local ethanol producers that have need for high energy wheat. Oats are both sold local and for export. Feed quality oats are typical sold to local livestock feeders while milling and horse quality oats are exported to the United States. Other commodites such as rye, triticale, and corn are all grown domestically and marketed to the best available market whether it be local or export. With the huge growth in bio-fuels, namely ethanol in the United States, there is now a large supply of co-products available to move into Canada. Importing co-products from bio-fuel plants is subject to the economics of bio-fuels and foreign exchange at that time. Screenings and grain screening pellets are also popular among livestock feeders as alternative feed stocks that general lower feeding costs.
